Some tables are worth reusing exactly once: a monthly hiring tracker, a campaign budget sheet, a QBR summary, and setting up a full template for something that specific often feels like overkill. So the table gets rebuilt from scratch each time: same columns, same formulas, same conditional formatting, retyped by hand, with a real chance a formula gets copied wrong along the way.
Excel-like Tables for Confluence has a shortcut for exactly this case.
Copy the URL of any existing table, then use the “From Excel-like Tables URL” option when creating a new one: it’s one of seven ways to start a table, alongside creating from scratch, from a template, or from a file. The new table comes in with the same columns, formulas, and formatting as the source, ready to fill in with this period’s numbers instead of last period’s.
Picture a department head running a monthly hiring tracker: candidate stages, days-in-pipeline formulas, color-coded status columns. Instead of rebuilding that structure every month or maintaining it as a formal shared template, they open last month’s table, copy its URL, and paste it into a new page’s create dialog. The new tracker shows up with every formula and format already in place. What used to be twenty minutes of rebuilding is now closer to twenty seconds of pasting a link.
It’s a lighter-weight option than templates. Here’s how you can Create a new table using Excel-like Tables URL.
