Phased Confluence migrations don’t happen in a weekend.
Most organizations run both Data Center and Cloud environments side by side for months, sometimes longer, while teams validate Cloud before the final cutover. Keeping content aligned during that window has meant paying for two licenses (one for Cloud, one for DC) just to run the sync tool that connects them.
That’s changed.
If you’ve purchased Space Sync for Confluence (Cloud) on an eligible annual plan, you can now also run Space Sync for Confluence (Data Center) at no additional license cost for the duration of your migration.
It’s part of Atlassian’s Dual Licensing program, and eligibility and duration follow Atlassian’s standard terms.
Picture an IT manager six months into an eight-month rollout. Some business units are fully on Cloud, others are still on Data Center waiting on custom workflows to migrate. Content has to stay synced both ways until every team cuts over.
Before dual licensing, that meant renewing a Data Center license solely to keep the sync running. Now that license is covered as part of the Cloud subscription: one less budget line to justify for a tool you’ll stop needing the day migration ends.
This sits squarely in what Space Sync already does best: keeping Cloud and Data Center content in sync throughout a migration, not just during the one-time move Atlassian’s Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant (CCMA) handles.
Dual licensing removes the cost friction that made running that sync uncomfortable to justify internally.
