Atlassian has been steering Cloud apps away from Connect and toward Forge for a while now: tighter permissions, better isolation, a longer runway before old APIs get deprecated out from under you.
If you admin a Confluence site with Excel-like Tables installed, that shift just landed on your desk. Version 6.0.0 is the app’s move to Forge.
Version 6.0.0 rebuilds Excel-like Tables for Confluence on Forge end to end. Your tables, formulas, and Excerpt Macros keep working exactly as configured, nothing about your stored data changes.
A few things you will notice: a cleaner Create screen, and Global Templates that now hold close to 40x more table content than before (roughly 79.6 MB per template instead of hitting a size ceiling), with previews that finally render your Excel-like Tables macros before you commit to a page. One trade-off worth flagging upfront: fullscreen editing no longer fills the entire browser window, since Forge renders inside a fixed container, the editor works the same, the visible canvas is just a bit smaller.
If Excel-like Tables shows as “outdated” in your Marketplace apps list, that’s expected; Nothing broke, no data went missing. Atlassian requires a site admin to sign off on permission changes for a migration this size, so the update doesn’t apply itself.
Here’s how to clear it: Settings → Marketplace apps, find Excel-like Tables for Confluence, View app details, then Update. Takes a few minutes.
Forge is where new platform capabilities show up first, so staying on Connect means falling further behind with each release.
