Atlassian Ascend and the Future of Data Center: How Ricksoft is Supporting your Transition

Atlassian has announced that Data Center products will reach end of life on March 28, 2029, as part of the Atlassian Ascend initiative. On that date, Data Center subscriptions and associated Marketplace apps will expire, with support winding down in phases over the next three years.

For teams running Confluence and Jira Data Center today, this announcement raises important questions. What does this mean for your current setup? How soon do you need to act? And how will your existing apps be affected?

At Ricksoft, we want to be clear and practical. We are here to support you through this transition, at a pace that fits your organization.

What Atlassian Ascend Means for Data Center Customers

Atlassian Ascend is Atlassian’s long-term program to guide customers from Data Center to Cloud. While the 2029 end-of-life date may feel distant, Atlassian strongly encourages teams to start planning early, especially for complex or regulated environments where migrations take time.

Importantly, planning early does not mean migrating immediately.

Many organizations will move to Cloud in phases, running Cloud and Data Center in parallel while validating workflows, managing compliance requirements, and preparing teams for change. Hybrid environments are a normal and expected part of this journey.

To support this, Atlassian offers Cloud migration trials for Data Center customers. These trials allow teams to explore Atlassian Cloud alongside their existing Data Center environment, making it easier to evaluate options before committing to a full migration.

Ricksoft’s Approach to Cloud Migration

Ricksoft has supported customers through major Atlassian platform transitions before, including the move from Server to Data Center and Cloud. We know that there is no single migration path that works for everyone.

Our approach is simple:

  • Continue supporting customers on Data Center in line with Atlassian’s published timeline
  • Invest in Cloud apps and migration paths for the long term
  • Reduce friction for teams moving gradually rather than all at once

For customers considering migration, we also offer dual licensing for eligible apps. Dual licensing allows you to use both Data Center and Cloud versions during your transition period, helping you avoid unnecessary cost or disruption while environments overlap.

Introducing Space Sync for Confluence (Data Center)

As part of this transition period, many teams need to maintain consistency across Confluence environments while they migrate. Content drift, manual copying, and misalignment between Cloud and Data Center can quickly become operational risks.

To support these scenarios, we’re introducing Space Sync for Confluence (Data Center).

Space Sync is designed to help teams keep Confluence content aligned across spaces and environments, especially during phased or hybrid migrations. Teams commonly use Space Sync to:

  • Maintain a single source of truth across Cloud and Data Center
  • Prevent content drift during staged migrations
  • Support collaboration between teams working in different environments (Cloud and Data Center)
  • Reduce manual effort when managing shared content

Space Sync also supports phased migration by enabling incremental content movement and ongoing synchronization between Confluence Data Center and Confluence Cloud.

This helps teams reduce content drift and keep information consistent while they validate workflows and transition over time; something the native Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant does not currently provide.

What this means for our Data Center apps

Many organizations using Data Center rely on multiple Ricksoft apps as part of their daily workflows. Atlassian’s announcement does not change our short-term commitment to supporting these customers.

Ricksoft will continue to support our Data Center apps in line with Atlassian’s published timeline. Our Data Center apps remain available, supported, and actively maintained during the transition period.

Our Data Center apps include:

Each of these apps has a Cloud counterpart, and we provide migration paths to help customers move forward when ready.

ℹ️

For eligible customers, dual licensing is available to support phased migrations across Cloud and Data Center.

If you are unsure how Atlassian’s timeline applies to your current setup or apps, our team is happy to help clarify your options.

Planning ahead, without pressure

Every migration journey looks different. Some teams are already preparing to move fully to Cloud, while others need more time to evaluate dependencies, security requirements, or internal readiness.

Our recommendation is simple:

  • Start planning early
  • Use Cloud migration trials to explore your options
  • Identify where hybrid environments may be needed
  • Choose tools and licensing models that reduce risk during transition

Ricksoft will continue to communicate clearly as Atlassian’s timeline progresses, and we’ll support our customers through each stage of the journey.

If you’re currently using Ricksoft apps on Data Center, exploring Atlassian Cloud migration trials, or planning a phased move to Cloud, we’re happy to talk.

Our team can help you:

  • Understand how Atlassian Ascend impacts your setup
  • Evaluate dual licensing options
  • Decide whether Space Sync fits your migration strategy

We look forward to supporting you and your teams throughout this transition.
